Paul S. Brown at Chelsea

The savoury subjects of Paul S. Brown’s paintings on Tuesday at the Flower Show were a delightful contrast both in subject and form. Vegetables, cookery, herbs and spices are all a theme of inspiration at Chelsea and this year BBC Radio 2 used them to great effect on their taste garden supported by DJ Chris Evans and celebrity cook Mary Berry.

Paul had a collection of wonderful onions and lavender which formed the basis of his composition. The crisp skins of the onions have a great texture and patination and during the day as the light changed, the golden tones glistened. The move back to Dorset has left him with much more inspiration to celebrate the journey of farm and field to larder, cellar and kitchen.

The new studio has light from above and he commented to many of our visitors that this was making a huge difference to his new paintings. A fantastically soft lavender painting in a warm terracotta pot wrapped by brown paper found a charming new home after the Flower Show.

It was Paul’s first time painting for us at the Flower Show and he thoroughly enjoyed the chance to meet so many interested visitors. He even let one of our most valued clients try her hand!
